Terra firma craft building an underground city

Rainfall 350 may be a bit high for some fruit trees/crops. Generally speaking I'm thinking I might have settled down too early ? Or is the trick to spend a lot of time exploring AFTER you've chosen a spot ?

Am I at least still going to find game in winter ? I'm settled some way north from spawn, rainfall's ~350.Īm I going to make it ? I couldn't find salt or alcohol yielding fruit / flour so I have no means of storing food long term. However I'm very worried about food - I have to regularly hunt to survive, and unless I happen upon a fruit tree (I'm in mid summer) I almost never get to eat anything other than meat, and my crops are pretty meager (15 ish crops growing, no idea about whether the temperature is optimal).

I've recently started playing TerraFirmaCraft (V 1.12) and I've just reached the copper forging age (no more molding !) and I feel like I settled a good spot (large plain next to a very large freshwater lake, surrounded by forests with tanning wood and clay, close by underground copper veins & a marble layer below for flux & lime).
